bring me back to life

(for Halloween)

bring me back to life
cover me in skin
conjure me from dust
layers upon layers  thin

colour me in blood

breathe in me your breath
filling up my lungs
leave me your untimely death
I will lament in songs

tangle me in veins

brush my new-grown hair
count each careful stroke
be still my beating heart
each pulse a life departs

carve me into pores

my bones will be your home
my eyes for you to see
through me you will taste
darkness borne of dreams

bring me back to life

step across the threshold
fade through the veil
stones yielding underfoot
my shadow shapes the pale. I will drink you every day
I will feed you every day
I will hold you every day
I will know you every day.
